What Does Your Jewelry Say About You

Everyone has a favorite piece of jewelry.  It’s that go-to piece that completes the outfit and brings it all together.  Even an engagement or wedding ring full of diamonds can be considered an everyday part of an outfit, and leaving the house without your favorite piece of jewelry may make you feel naked and incomplete.  What you may not realize is that your favorite piece of jewelry can also send a message about you and the type of person you are.

Shiny and Bright

Many people prefer a large rock or shiny piece of gold jewelry.  If we are talking diamonds, this type of jewelry usually implies that you like to be the center of attention and don’t have a problem if people notice you.  Outgoing people love shiny jewelry and love the attention they get from having a piece of jewelry that gets them noticed.

Precious Heirlooms

Is your favorite piece a family heirloom, or a pair of earrings that were brought to America by your great-great aunt when she survived the sinking of the Titanic?  If you love heirlooms and the stories behind them, you are likely to be focused on family and traditions.  Heirlooms like diamonds, rubies, or sapphires are great conversation starters, and many people will love hearing the story behind it and why it’s important to you.  Heirlooms also provide a connection with the past.  If your mother passed on when you were young and you miss having her around, wearing her favorite necklace can make her feel closer to you on a daily basis.

The Handmade Piece

Is your favorite piece of jewelry the friendship bracelet your best friend made you in college?  Or the pair of earrings your mother made you for your 21st birthday?  Again, you are likely to be sentimental and focused on the feeling behind the jewelry rather than the jewelry itself.  Handmade jewelry comes with its own story and allows you to attach meaning to items that are otherwise just simple pieces of metal.  Wearing handmade jewelry is perfect for the person who prefers to be unique and wants something that is one of a kind.

How to Choose for Her

Now that you’ve got a little background on what a piece of jewelry can say about the person who is wearing, the task of picking the perfect gift becomes a little easier.  Ask yourself the following questions when picking a piece of jewelry for a gift.

  • Does she have a unique style and prefer thrift shops and vintage clothing to popular department stores?  If so, she may prefer something handmade.

  • Does she hold fast to every family tradition you’ve ever had and does it give her anxiety if the Christmas tree isn’t cut down from the same place every year?  If so, a family heirloom will fit right in with her personality.

  • Is she up on the latest trends and does she love being recognized for her style?  If so, she’s likely to love something bright and shiny with her jewelry.

Just like clothing, jewelry says a lot about a person and their personal opinions and styles.  You’re more likely to be attracted to jewelry that fits your personality, further emphasizing that who you are should always play a part in what you wear.
